I Live For Weekends!

Three fabulous things happened this weekend:

First, I got to use my vintage 1965 KitchenAid mixer that my wonderful boyfriend gave me! I made some home made buttercream icing for a cake I was making.

Thanks Joshie!!

My best friend in the whole wide world since Kindergarten, turned 20 last tuesday. SO, I made her a cake. It's a smiley face cake because she loves smiley faces :-) and I love her!!

Happy Birthday Lauren!!

ALSO, my awesome family and I spent yesterday at my new house putting down new flooring. It looks like a different house, I'm not kidding. Here are some before and after pics.

Before

After

So, now I have to say goodbye to the weekend and fun and freedom...because I have three big tests this week, which is why I can't even go to craft night at church. BOO for church activities on Monday nights. Perhaps I'll find a second to be creative this week, we'll see.

Trying New Things.

So, I sat down today, my first day of this week without homework, and I decided to broaden my crochet horizons. :-) I made a headband, which is really easy because you just make a band and then sew the short ends together. BUT I also learned to make...wait for it...a FLOWER :-))) I am so excited about it. The first one I made was kind of huge. So I found a pattern for a smaller one. Then the pattern didn't work for me. Finally, I just made up my own flower pattern and it turned out really cute. Of course, I just used yarn that was available to me so it isn't all that fashionable BUT if I can do it with crazy yarn, then I can do it with any yarn.

The first flower (like I said kind of huge).

My made up flower :-).

Not much happened today. I mostly did what a good college kid should do today...which was all homework. BUT I did finish my homework for the rest of the week so plenty of time to be crafty.
So, I have three exciting things for you.
1. I finished my history paper!
2. I'm getting flooring put down in my house this weekend!
3. I learned 2 new crochet stitches tonight! (double crochet stitch and treble stitch)

Bonus exciting thing:
10 days until Saline-O-Ween!! :-) it's going to be AWESOME!!

I'll be getting back to The Coffee Table Project this weekend...yay for productive weekends.

Magnificent!

I will post what few pics I took of the concert soon. Bottom line: it was the best concert ever. U2 has the most outrageous stage, it was crazy. I had so much fun. I bought a poster to hang in my house! :-) and my ticket is most definitely being added to the coffee table project.

I'm trying to learn some new crochet stitches this week, but I have some catching up to do since I neglected my schooling during Fall Break. So unfortunately, I'll mostly be doing homework this week...

but just for your own personal enjoyment:

Extreme Makeover: Coffee Table

So, today I began work on my coffee table. First, my dad and I took of the railing that was on the table ends. Then we bought some shelf liner to cover the table top. I'm going to put some records on it. (Elvis Presley - Hound Dog and Jerry Lee Lewis - Great Balls of Fire) So, we'll cut a hole in the shelf liner so that the records will sit even with the surface. I'm covering the rest of the table with pictures from old Rolling Stone issues and an old Elvis calendar. I did a trial lay out so that I have an idea of what I want to do once I get ready to Mod Podge everything on. :-)

P.S. I got all my "new" dishes washed today!

OH What a Week!

I have four exciting things to tell you.
1. I'm going to a U2 concert on Sunday night...and I am FREAKING out!
2. I bought a coffee table today at the Habitat for Humanity Restore!
3. I bought a really cute set of retro hand decorated plates there too!
4. I'm on fall break!

Ok, so about this coffee table...I have to tell you some background information. I kind of love Elvis Presley (I know you think this has nothing to do with a coffee table, but it will I promise). When I was a kid I thought he was still alive, and then my grandma told me he was dead. I was in mourning for a week. SOO, I have all of these Elvis pictures from a calendar I used to have, and I also have a ton of 45' records. I'm going to put them all on the coffee table. This is my next project and I'm so excited.

I'll keep my progress posted on here. Right now I'm working on taking the handles off and filling the holes. Then I want to cover the top with newspaper. THEN add the pictures. Luckily, my dad has a lot of experience with furniture. He's going to help me get the legs of the table back in good shape.

This is one of my super cute retro plates. I LOVE. I also bought some little yellow tea cups and a creamer that matches the yellow in the plate. It makes me so happy to be buying things for the house! I can't wait to move in.

Have a good Thursday!

Well, aren't we crafty?

So, Hello Ladies blog is up and running. You should check it out. I am very happy to tell you that we've confirmed another craft show, the 10th Annual Helping Hands Craft Show. It's at the Saline County Fairgrounds on November 13 and 14 from 9:00am to 5:00pm. It will be lots of fun so you should come visit the ladies.

In related news, I am knitting like a mad woman...like the woman in A Tale of Two Cities...only I'm not ordering hits on anyone. I saw this super cute garland that I'm experimenting with before I start the real thing.

olive's garland...

Also, I found another fingerless mitten pattern that I want to try out. I thought I would share it with you!

So, it was FUH-REEZING Saturday at Old Fashioned Day. The ladies of Hello Ladies still managed to have fun. This was our lovely and colorful booth. Surprisingly, our coasters were the number one seller. I did sell my hand thingies for seven dollars, which makes me proud. I think we are doing another booth on October 31, so I'm gonna get on the ball and knit my little fingers to the bone.

I'm so excited because my crafty friends and I are going to show off our crafty creations at Old Fashioned Day tomorrow in Benton. It is going to be so much fun. Hopefully, the rain won't hang around all day long.
I'll post some pictures soon.

Hand Warmer Thingies

So my first pair of hand warmers are finished and they fit and they're cute. I'm so excited. I'm not really sure if "hand warmers" is the correct name...but that's just what I've been calling them. Total number of hours spent working on them was probably about five or six. I'm taking a break from working on my second pair to make this post, but I just wanted to share some pictures. My roommate so graciously agreed to be my lovely hand model :-).

i'm starting my second attempt at hand warmers! Pictures will be posted soon :-)

Crafty

I don't know how to tell you this, but I kinda love knitting. And anything crafty really. I've been knitting these things I like to call ipod snuggies. I'm also trying to master the hand warmers. AND I've also been making some button rings. Super easy to make and super cute :-).
